California protects against sexual orientation discrimination

Gay or lesbian workers who suffer from unfair treatment or harassment in Los Angeles have the right to seek damages under California laws covering sexual orientation discrimination. This is not the case in every jurisdiction. There are many states that have not enacted labor laws that cover this type of workplace discrimination.
Even though a number of legislative measures have been turned down in other states, it has not prevented advocates from continuing their fight for equal protection under labor laws. The most recent effort was in Missouri. Even though the measure did not pass into law, Senate Minority Leader Jolie Jostus felt that it was still a victorious step in the right direction.
